Memories that make my heart cold
However some day they'll live again sweetheart
And my blue moon again will turn to gold

When My Blue Moon Turns to Gold Again was written by Wiley Walker and Gene Sullivan in 1941 and recorded by them that same year (Columbia 20264). Walker was inspired to write the song while traveling in West Texas with the full moon on his face. As he drove down the highway, daybreak approached. Walker noted the apparent change of color of the moon from a blueish tint to gold. Other popular versions of When My Blue Moon Turns to Gold Again include those by Zeke Manners and his band, the Singing Lariateers, in 1947 (RCA 20-2130) and by Tex Ritter in 1949 (Capitol 1977).

Elvis recorded When My Blue Moon Turns to Gold Again on September 2, 1956, at Radio Recorders. Although not released as a single, the song reached #27 on Billboard's Top 100 chart based on the strength of its appearance on the EP Elvis, Volume 1. It had a 15-week stay on the chart. Elvis sang When My Blue Moon Turns to Gold Again in his third appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show (January 6, 1957).
