Go Back

There Goes My Everything

Words & Music by Dallas Frazier

Go Back

There Goes My Everything

Words & Music by Dallas Frazier

Lyrics:

There goes my only possession
There goes my everything

I hear footsteps slowly walking
As they gently walk across the lonely floor
And a voice is softly saying
Darling this will be goodbye for evermore

There goes my reason for living
There goes the one of my dreams
There goes my only possession
There goes my everything

As my memory turns back the pages
I can see the happy years we've had before
Now the love that kept this heart beating
Has been shattered by the closing of the door

More info:

Dallas Frazier wrote There Goes My Everything in 1965, basing it on the broken marriage of two friends. Jack Greene took the song to the top of the country chart in 1967. His recording (Decca 32023) was named Single of the Year at the annual Country Music Association Awards. Composer Frazier received a CMA award for Song of the Year. In 1967 Englebert Humperdinck had a million-seller with There Goes My Everything (Parrot 40015), reaching #20 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. Another popular recording that year was by Sue Raney (Imperial 66222).

Elvis recorded There Goes My Everything on June 8, 1970, at RCA's Nashville studios. His single release had a nine-week stay on the Hot 100 chart, peaking at #21. On the country chart, the song, paired with I Really Don't Want to Know, reached #9 - Elvis's first top 10 country record since 1958. There Goes My Everything peaked at #2 on the Easy-Listening chart. Only Bobby Goldsboro's Watching Scotty Grow kept it from the top spot.
