Go Back

Never Been to Spain

Words & Music by Hoyt Axton

Lyrics:

Well I've never been to Spain
But I kind of like the music
Say the ladies are insane there
And they sure know how to use it
The don't abuse it
Never gonna loose it
I can't refuse it

Well, I've never been to England
But I kind of like the Beatles
So I headed for Las Vegas
Only made it out to Lido's
Can you feel it
Must be weary
Oh so good... oh feel so good

Well I've never been to heaven
But I've been in Oklahoma
Well, they tell me I was born there
But I really don't remember
In Oklahoma or Arizona
What does it matter
What does it matter

More info:
Three Dog Night originally recorded this Hoyt Axton composition in late 1971. Never Been to Spain (Dunhill 4299) rose to #5 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart and #18 on the Easy-Listening chart. Elvis soon incorporated the song into his concert act. During his tour in April 1972, MGM recorded Elvis's performance of Never Been to Spain for the documentary Elvis on Tour. RCA had intended to include the song in the Standing Room Only album, but the LP was never released. A few months later, RCA recorded the evening show at Madison Square Garden on June 10, 1972. It's that version of Never Been to Spain that RCA released.
