In 1964 Gene Chandler recorded the song as Soul Hootenanny (Constellation 114). Elvis recorded Big Boss Man on September 10, 1967, at RCA's Nashville studios. His single release had a six-week stay on the Hot 100 chart, reaching #38. Elvis sang Big Boss man in a medley in his 1968 TV special, Elvis. Both the instrumental and vocal tracks were recorded at Western Recorders in Hollywood on June 20 or 21, 1968.
