His Hand in Mine was Elvis's first gospel album. It did quite well, achieving sales of over $1 million. A Gold Record was certified by the RIAA on April 9, 1969. RCA claims that over 500,000 units have been sold. The front cover of His Hand in Mine featured a photo of Elvis sitting at a piano. On Mother's Day, May 9, 1965, the album received considerable airplay on radio stations across the country.

His Hand in Mine had a 20-week stay on Billboard's Top LPs chart, reaching a high of #13.
