This was the soundtrack album to Elvis's 1960 film G.I. Blues. All eleven movie songs were included. The cover featured a photo of Elvis in his Army uniform. A special "Elvis is Back!" innersleeve was provided. G.I. Blues sold over 3.5 million copies, easily qualifying for a Gold Record, which was certified by the RIAA on March 12, 1963.

G.I. Blues entered Billboard's Top LPs chart in October 1960, at #6 - the highest debut position for any Elvis LP. This LP was number 1, it remained on the chart for a total of one hundred and eleven weeks (111 weeks), ten weeks at number one.
